These are pictures of the Computer Lab where classes are taught on How to Use the Computer and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint). Classes also incorporate software to develop skills in math, reading, science, spelling, writing, drawing, typing, etc.

Computer Lab

The Computer Lab is located on the main floor of the school. There are 30 student computers in the Computer Lab, a System Administrator's computer, plus two server computers. One of the servers is a Linux file server (installed summer 2003) and the other is a Linux Internet Proxy server. The Proxy Server contains Internet filtering software for unacceptable web sites for children and pop-up ads. The school also has its own internal email system. The network was upgraded in summer 2003 to include 2-3COM 100 Mbps switches which replaced an old 10 Mbps hub.

High-speed Internet service is provided by Cincinnati Bell Inc. The service is called Zoomtown DSL.

In 2004, all computers in the Computer Lab were upgraded. All the student computers and the System Administrator's computer in the Lab run the Windows XP Pro operating system.

Teachers can have remote access to the school computers.

The Lab has a CD-ReWritable drive on two computers along with an HP 5370C scanner. A DVD burner is also installed on 1 computer.

All computers in the Lab have the following software:

 ·      Microsoft Office 2003 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

·      Accelerated Reader V5.12

·      Math Blaster

·      Kids Works Deluxe

·      Print Shop

·      Gradequick

Classroom Computers

In 2001, computers were installed in every classroom. These allow teachers to input data to the Covington Diocesan Education Department database, process email, enter and administer grades in Gradequick, use the Microsoft Office products, and allow students to do research on the Internet and run other software programs. New computers were installed in all classrooms in 2004. The new computers run Windows XP Pro, Office 2003, Print Shop, and Gradequick.

Teachers can also use the TView computer-to-TV unit to display information from the computer to the classroom TV, like PowerPoint presentations.

Office Computers

The School Office has 2 computers used by the Principal and Secretary. Both run Windows XP Pro and Office 2003.

Library Computers

The Library has 3 computers, 1 for the Librarian and 2 for use by students to locate books and do Accelerated Reader quizzes. All 3 computers run Windows XP Pro.

Cafeteria Computers

The Cafeteria has 1 computer running Windows XP Pro and is used by the Cafeteria Manager to assist in the management of the Cafeteria.

Gym Computers

The Gym has 1 computer running Windows XP Pro and is used by the Physical Education Teacher to assist in the management of classes.

Smart Boards

In 2007, 4 Smart Boards were donated to the school. Subsequently 4 laptop computers (1 Acer and 3 Lenovo) and 4 projectors were purchased and the Smart Boards were ready for classroom use in January 2008. The laptops are wirelessly connected to the network. Each laptop has installed the core Smart Board software plus other Smart Board components, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Print Shop, plus other software specific to certain grade levels. One Smart Board is available to Grades K, 1 and 2, one is available to Grades 3 and 4, and two Smart Boards are available to Grades 5 through 8. All Smart Boards have access to the Internet. Each laptop has a DVD drive which can be used to show DVD-based curriculum material to the students. The Smart Boards can also be used to show videos downloaded from United Streaming on a host of curriculum topics.
