Mission:
The Legion of Mary is a world-wide organization of
Catholics, men and women, who offer their services to their Pastor to aid
him in performing Catholic action or social action in the parish. This is
done by placing themselves under the banner of Mary so that, with her help,
they may develop greater holiness in their lives as well as spread a deeper
devotion to Mary among others.

Aim:

Increase the personal holiness of the members through
imitation of the virtues of Mary.

Foster a deep devotion to Mary among all people.

Undertake various apostolic works (e.g. visiting the sick in
hospitals, nursing homes, and in their homes; giving instructions to
prospective converts; teaching CCD classes; welcome calls to newcomers;
encouraging lapsed or indifferent Catholics; cooperating with parish or
civic groups.

Attending weekly meetings.

Daily recitation of the Legion Prayer.

Doing two hours of apostolic work each week.

Daily recitation of the Rosary.

Daily recitation of prayers in the Legion leaflet.

Major Accomplishments:
-
Welcome calls are made to all newly registered parishioners.
Each family is given a framed picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus along
with an Enthronement Package of various religious articles.

A monthly Interfaith Dinner Meeting, at one of the churches
in the Fort Thomas or Southgate area, is attended by two members. There they
receive names and addresses of people who have recently moved into the area.
Each home is visited and presented with a list of all churches complete with
the times of their services.

Visits to local hospitals, nursing and retirement homes, as
well as shut-ins are made by members.

Gift boxes are prepared containing a Baptismal Stole and
religious articles and given to every newly baptized baby at the ceremony.

Legion members are responsible for Bulletin inserts as well
as changing the Missalettes.

Each first Saturday of the month, several Legion members
recite the Rosary at Carmel Manor Nursing Home with the residents and
socialize with them afterwards with refreshments.

The Legion has been responsible for the three book racks in
the vestibule of the Church. One member keeps this very popular feature
stacked with new and up-to-date printings of good Catholic literature.

History:
The Legion of Mary was started by Frank Duff in Dublin,
Ireland on September 7, 1921, the eve of the feast of Our Lady's Nativity.
Frank Duff, who died November 7, 1980, is now up for Beatification.
The Legion of Mary at St. Therese Parish was established in
May of 1955 with the following officers:
