CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) classes are offered to parish children in grades 1 through 8, providing formal religious education for those not attending parochial school. The pastor oversees the program, while the coordinator recruits and trains catechists, selects materials, and supervises instruction. Catechists—teachers, co-teachers, and aides—are confirmed Catholics, at least 18 years old, and high school graduates, with no canonical impediments to the sacraments. High school students may serve as aides. Volunteers are always welcome to take on roles like catechists, substitutes, prayer partners, or assistants with special projects and retreats.
Instruction follows the Catechism of the Catholic Church and diocesan-approved materials. Classes meet on Wednesday evenings from September to May in the school building. Registration takes place in August, with classes starting the Wednesday after Labor Day. A fee is required to cover materials, supplies, and administrative costs. Parents should inform the coordinator of any special educational needs, and students are typically grouped by age.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a journey of faith for those who are interested in becoming Catholic or completing their sacraments of initiation. Through prayer, learning, and community, participants deepen their relationship with Christ and the Church. Whether you are unbaptized, baptized in another Christian tradition, or a Catholic seeking Confirmation, RCIA provides a welcoming path to explore the Catholic faith.
If you would like to volunteer to teach CCD or to help with students in our school, you will need to be Virtus trained. For more information, visit the website of the Diocese of Covington.
